Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by throwing a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket. The game is played on a rectangular court, with a hoop elevated at each end. Players can score by shooting from various distances, and points are awarded differently based on where the shot is taken—two points for shots made from inside the three-point line, and three points for shots made from beyond it. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Basketball involves various skills, including dribbling, shooting, passing, and defensive maneuvers, and it emphasizes teamwork and strategy. The sport has a global following, with professional leagues, international competitions, and widespread participation at all levels. It was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith and has since evolved into one of the world’s most popular sports.
