Football

Football, in most countries outside of North America, refers to a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, where the objective is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. Players primarily use their feet to control, pass, and shoot the ball, although goalkeepers are allowed to use their hands within a designated area, known as the penalty box. Football is governed internationally by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

The term “football” can also refer to various other codes of similar sports depending on the region, including association football (soccer), American football, Canadian football, Australian rules football, and rugby football. Each of these variations has distinct rules and gameplay. However, in a global context, “football” most commonly signifies association football, which is known for its worldwide popularity and cultural significance. The game fosters teamwork, strategy, and physical endurance, making it one of the most widely played and watched sports across the globe.
